Spontaneous adventures are always the best adventures, right?

My trip to Austria or as the Germans call it, Österreich, was magical from start to finish. Originally, my friend Erin and I planned on taking a day trip to Salzburg, Austria because it is so close to Munich, where we were staying for a week. But one night at dinner, we met an American couple from Chicago that had recently went on a toboggan ride, down a mountain, in Austria. They showed us pictures and we were instantly convinced on booking a trip too. We decided to change our itinerary so we could squeeze in a toboggan riding trip too. That toboggan ride, was, and still is the MOST AMAZING thing I have ever done in my life!!

Quick little funny comment: before I moved to Germany, I thought Austria was Australia and when people said ‘Austria’ I thought it was just a short version of Australia. I was SO confused. Hahahahah American education is great, don’t ya think?

In the above photo, you can see the BREATHTAKING view from the top of a mountain!! Literally, gorgeous. We do not have mountains in Minnesota, so every time I see mountains in Europe, my breath is taken away!

Details about getting to this toboggan location:

• We took a train into Salzburg, Austria from Munich, Germany. It was only about an hour. From Salzburg, we took a bus ride for about another hour that led us to the top of the mountain. The roads were very thin and I would be lying if I said I was not scared.
• The tickets were relatively cheap – about 6 Euros if I remember correctly.
• Unfortunately, I do not remember the name of the city, but if anyone is interested, I can find it!
• Going down the mountain took about 10 minutes, but I was going very slow! Haha
• We were placed in tiny little yellow go-kart looking cars. (See photos below)
• HANDS DOWN BEST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE!!

Next up:

Salzburg, Austria

My friend and I made a day-trip out of the Toboggan ride and visiting Salzburg. We started the morning off with the Toboggan ride, and then stopped in Salzburg on our way back to Germany, so we did not spend a significant amount of time in Salzburg. Luckily, one afternoon in Salzburg, was enough to enjoy the pure beauty of this city! We had very delicious Radler (beer mixed with lemonade), and we walked around the old-town. From my short experience in Austria, I can confidently say, Austria left a great impression on us. The people were friendly, helpful, and interactive. We ever saw people wearing traditional Dirndl and Lederhosen.

When I thought of Germany, before I moved here, the above photo is what I imagined. But, to my surprise, no one dresses like that in Germany. But, in Austria they do! I saw a whole family wearing these types of outfits – it was great!
